Lai Omotola, the Group Managing Director of CFL Group says entrepreneurs can build Nigeria.
Noting that one must come before the other, Omotola who also sit at the helms at Masters Reality Concept International, one of Nigeria’s leading real estate development companies, said there is a need to build entrepreneurs in the country.
Omotola in an exclusive interview with Entrepreneurtv, stated that there is a need to build infrastructure in order for Nigeria’s economy to develop.
“We, as a real estate company, we go into a community that is totally disjointed, infrastructurally decayed because of our brand.
“We are going into that community, knowing that if we must add value to the property we want to sell, we must improve the infrastructure.
” So, we build and construct the road that leads into our estate. So, if developers are going into different segments gradually, our infrastructures begin to improve,” he said.
Developing infrastructures
The widely respected entrepreneur who gave an example of an estate in the country that has never witness darkness for over ten years because they have been provided with independent power plant, noted that it is not the religious leaders or politicians that will build the country, but entrepreneurs themselves.
“The religious leaders and politicians can’t build this country, but the entrepreneurs will build the rail, airways, roads and every facet of it.
“And as they are building, they are building the infrastructure and the economy.”
Government as think-tank
Speaking on the role of government in economic development, Omotola said with provision of good policies being the function of the government, opportunities will be created for entrepreneurs to flourish and develop the country.
“The critical role of the government is to provide policies that will boost entrepreneurship. Policies that will create opportunities.
“It was a policy that brought about GSM, and it created opportunity and we are seeing what is happening today. It was a policy that brought privatisation of oil and gas, electricity and the rail.
“So, that is the role of the government . The government is not a money bag that everybody should be going to to collect money. The government is the think-tank for creating an enabling environment that everybody is willing can achieve the Nigerian dream.”
