In order to deepen the impact of agriculture in the country, Stakeholders in the agriculture sector have advised farmers to boost the nation’s economy through value chain initiatives
The stakeholders, who gave the advice in Abuja, opined that the value chain would not only boost the nation’s economy, but also improve income of smallholder farmers.
Zurara Zubair, President, Kwara Cooperative Agriculture Organisation, expressed optimism that diversifying agricultural produce into value chain would enhance productivity as well as the nation’s economy.
Zubair observed that the sector had suffered poor food production for a long period in Nigeria, attributing it to inefficient food technologies, food scientists, poor credit facilities and poor marketing strategies.
Samuel Inyang, General Manager, Sersirgwe Integrated Farm, advised the Federal Government to help improve food security and incomes of smallholder farmers through the Value Chain Development (VCD) Programme.
According to Inyang, the initiative will further promote economic growth, food supply and create employment in the country.
