Restructuring of NIPOST will provide efficient services

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) says the planned restructuring and modernisation of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) will facilitate efficient service delivery and set it on a profitable path.
The Director-General of BPE, Alex Okoh, said this in a statement issued by the Head, Public Communications, Chukwumah Nwokoh, on Thursday, in Abuja.
Okoh said this when he received the Postmaster-General of NIPOST, Biyi Adegbuyi, who led other management team on a courtesy visit to BPE.
He said that the planned restructuring would lead to NIPOST’s unbundling to have stand-alone business components that would project its brand.
According to him, NIPOST has great potential, that given the right incentives and business strategy, it will become efficient, profitable and provide value for money.
“The restructuring will be dependent on the outcome of the work of the advisers engaged for the transaction.
“Although, the bureau has the mandate for such reform, we are collaborating with all the critical stakeholders to ensure that the reform in NIPOST is carried out without hitches,’’ he said.
Okoh allayed fears of job cuts and pledged to work with the management of NIPOST to accommodate their views to transform it into a viable entity.
He maintained that the BPE was always conscious of the macro-economic impact in carrying out its mandate of reforms and privatisation.
“The thinking in the bureau is that we reform responsibly with the overall value delivered for the economy.’’
Responding, Adegbuyi, said that the organisation has braced up for the reform and had begun restructuring in readiness for it.
He said NIPOST had been re-engineered to carry out certain services, such as E-commerce, E-insurance, rural banking and a Post Youth Engagement Strategy, aimed at engaging the youth, who form the vast population of Nigeria.
Adegbuyi saidthat, in line with the new services, it planned to offer the Nigerian public, NIPOST’s Electronic Money Order.
