NNPC confirms oil deposit on Ogun island – Amosun

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday, said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had confirmed that there was petroleum and gas deposit in commercial quantity in Tongeji Island, located in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said this in a statement by a press officer in the Ogun State Government House, Femi Osipitan, on Saturday.
Amosun was quoted to have said this in his Oke Mosan, Abeokuta office, during a courtesy visit by the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sag Abbah, to his office.
He told the naval chief that the state would not relent in safeguarding the oil-rich Tongeji Island, especially now that the NNPC had confirmed the availability of petroleum and gas on the island.
Amosun commended the security agencies for working tirelessly to maintain peace and order in the country, especially in the North-East.
He, however, challenged the Nigerian Navy not to relent in its efforts at securing the nation’s waterways, assuring them of more visible government presence, especially on the Island.
Abbah said the Navy would partner the state government in maintaining law and order in the state, while advocating more government presence on Tongeji Island.
