The Kebbi State Government has commenced a training for directors of finance, auditors, accountants, bursars and budget officers on effective implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS).
The training is also for application of national charts of accounts. The participants are drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The Commissioner of Finance, Ibrahim Augie, who declared the training open, in Birnin Kebbi, on Monday, said that the training was to upgrade strategies on revenues accruing to the state government over the years.
“The revenues have continued to dwindle in real terms and this is in spite of the growing demand from the populace on dividend of democracy,” he said.
He said that the national charts of accounts was expected to ensure implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) basics.
“The IPSAS will anchor on the State Integrated Financial Management System (SIFMIS).
“The SIFMIS programme is being implemented, as a platform to also support payroll, planning and budgeting, budget execution, accounting, Treasury Single Account (TSA) and reporting on financial resources, ” he explained.
Augie urged the participants to provide the best ways of preparing and implementing budget in line with the national charts of accounts.
“At the end of the workshop, it is expected that each participant should know his or her roles in all stages of the application of the new reform, and would be expected to provide the co-operation and support for its successful application in the state, ” he said.
