The Federal Government achieved a successful peace settlement between PENGASSAN and Dangote Petroleum Refinery through its intervention on Tuesday.
The Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Muhammad Maigari-Dingyadi announced the successful outcome of the two-day Abuja conciliatory meeting through an official statement on Wednesday.
The two-day meetings at Dangote Refinery brought together National Security Adviser and ministers from Finance and Budget and Economic Planning and State for Petroleum (Gas) and representatives from DSS and NIA and NNPCL and NMDPRA and NUPRC and labor union leaders.
The reconciliation process began after PENGASSAN requested its members to stop gas delivery and exit refinery operations.
The company faced PENGASSAN criticism for dismissing more than 800 employees without legal basis which led to the industrial stoppage.
The company explained through its statement that the personnel dismissals occurred as part of its current organizational transformation process.
The meeting established through its communiqué that workers have the legal right to unionize under Nigerian law and the company must respect this right.
