Tinubu, Ojulari Explain Significance of WAGL’s 40,000 LPG Vessel for Nigeria’s Economy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, have elucidated that the inauguration of WAGL Energy Limited’s impressive 40,000 cubic metre (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel will facilitate the provision of clean energy not only to Nigeria but also to Africa and the global community.

This announcement was made on Monday during the commissioning ceremony of the vessel, aptly named “MT Iyaloja (Lagos),” which took place in Ulsan, South Korea.

According to DAILY POST, WAGL Energy Limited is a collaborative venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Sahara Group, featuring a state-of-the-art, dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier.

In his address, President Tinubu, represented by Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, applauded the companies for their visionary approach and unwavering commitment to enhancing Africa’s contribution to clean energy solutions.

Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, praised WAGL’s LPG vessel as a significant augmentation to Nigeria’s gas development initiatives.

Ojulari, who was represented by the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, emphasized that the vessel will play a pivotal role in harnessing the benefits of gas for Nigeria’s economic progress.

“NNPC Ltd. takes pride in being a key shareholder in this indigenous enterprise, which, alongside the newly launched MT Iyaloja (Lagos), boasts a fleet of four other LPG vessels, collectively delivering over 6 million MT of LPG throughout West Africa in the preceding five years,” he stated.

In a complementary note, WAGL’s Chairman/Executive Director at Sahara Group, Mr. Temitope Shonubi, remarked that the company’s expansion exemplifies its commitment to responsibly spearheading initiatives aimed at addressing the continent’s pressing energy infrastructure challenges.
