The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has announced that the federal government is dedicated to reaching a crude oil production target of 2.5 million barrels per day.
Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, made this announcement on Friday in Yenagoa during a stakeholders meeting hosted by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) to review the company’s operations on the Trans Niger Pipeline.
Ribadu emphasized that stronger measures are being implemented against oil vandals who pose a threat to national assets and local communities.
Represented by Amachree Young-Harry, the Director of Energy at the NSA office, Ribadu disclosed that a special committee, consisting of investigative and prosecuting teams, has been diligently working to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
He noted that over 100 suspects have already faced prosecution, with 15 recently convicted.
“The President is committed to achieving the target of 2.5 million barrels, and we are taking all necessary steps to meet this goal. Our success hinges on the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved,” he stated.
Akpos Mezeh, the PINL Consultant for Community Relations, noted that PINL has made significant strides in protecting the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) through strong partnerships with host communities, government security agencies, and other essential stakeholders.
“By addressing community needs, resolving conflicts, and restoring the environment, PINL has effectively reduced crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
“This has led to nearly zero infractions on the pipeline, enhanced crude oil production, and increased investor confidence, all of which contribute to higher national revenue,” he explained.
