Presidency Clarifies: Tinubu did not request CBN Governor Cardoso’s resignation

The presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not requested Yemi Cardoso to step down from his role as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement refuting claims that Tinubu had ordered Cardoso’s resignation.

In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, the presidential spokesman labeled the reports as false.

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga stated.

The rumors suggested that President Tinubu had given the directive to Cardoso prior to his trip to China, despite attempts by prominent Yoruba leaders to retain him in his position.

It is worth noting that the CBN governor has faced criticism for his handling of the current economic challenges and efforts to stabilize the economy.
