President Bola Tinubu has appointed new boards and managements for the country’s apex capital market regulator, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the insurance sector regulator, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
The new board and management of SEC included Mr. Mairiga Katuka, Chairman; Mr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General; Frana Chukwuogor, Executive Commissioner, Legal and Enforcement; Mr. Bola Ajomale, Executive Commissioner, Operations; Mrs. Samiya Hassan Usman, Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services while Mr. Lekan Belo and Mr. Kasimu Garba Kurfi were appointed as Non-Executive Commissioners.
Tinubu stated that he anticipated all members of the new SEC board to bring to bear their wealth of experience and competence in advancing the commission’s core mandate of developing and regulating a capital market that is dynamic, fair, transparent, and efficient.
According to the President, the new SEC board should work to bolster investor confidence and contribute immeasurably to the nation’s economic development.
The announcements were contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.

The new board of NAICOM included Ms. Halima Kyari, Chairperson; Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olawoye Gam-Ikon, Deputy Commissioner, Technical Operations; Dr. Usman Jimada, Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration while Dr. Miriam Kene Kachikwu, Mr. Adeniyi Olusegun Fabikun and Mr. Umar Khalifa Mohammed were appointed as members of the board.
The President charged the new NAICOM board “to exercise utmost probity as it leads the commission in ensuring a safe, sound, and stable insurance sector.”
Tinubu said the new board should protect policyholders, public interest, and improve trust and confidence in the sector.
The new SEC DG, Agama, was until his appointment, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Capital Market Institute (NCMI), the training arm of SEC. The new SEC’s Executive Commissioner, Operations, Ajomale, was the immediate past managing director of NASD OTC Plc, the over-the-counter platform for listing of unquoted public companies. Belo, former managing director of FCSL, a stockbroking firm, served as commissioner for finance under former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel. Kurfi is managing director of APT Securities & Funds.
