Finance Minister Commends SecureID for Driving Digitization Efforts
Mr. Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, recently visited SecureID Limited, a leading smartcard manufacturing company, to acknowledge its significant contributions to the country’s digitization initiatives.
During his visit to SecureID Limited’s corporate headquarters, Edun was impressed by the company’s ability to produce 200 million cards annually, including critical documents like voter registration cards and national identity cards. He commended SecureID for its forward-thinking approach and exemplary achievements in advancing Nigeria’s digital landscape.
Edun highlighted the importance of indigenous companies like SecureID in driving economic growth, generating employment opportunities, and improving service delivery. He pledged government support for local businesses investing in domestic alternatives and substituting foreign services.
Discussions during the visit centered on national interests such as backend service integration, financial technology, eSIM localization, and data enrollment for national identification. Kofo Akinkugbe, the Group Managing Director of SecureID, expressed optimism about future collaborations with the government and emphasized the company’s role in boosting Nigeria’s digital economy.
SecureID Limited, with its global certifications and cutting-edge smartcard production machinery, has been collaborating with industry giants like MasterCard, VISA, and Verve GSMA/SAS to manufacture high-security cards in Nigeria. Additionally, the company has embarked on local production and export initiatives across 21 African countries, contributing to regional economic development.
