The Fuel Joint Task Force (JTF) consisting of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered two more filling stations selling fuel for N240 per litre, in Bassa Village, behild Abuja Airport, Abuja.
The illegal filling station wad said to have 39,000 litres in its stock before the it was sold to motorists free of charge.
At the station, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, said, “The Fuel JTF is doing this unscheduled visits to make sure that these illegal stations (that are served by legal stations) are stopped.
” What I want the general public to know is that in two day, we were able to identify five illegal stations that have products that have obviously been diverted, because they will not be hoarding product under a normal circumstance. So, they must have got this product through product diversion.
“If you divert any truck, you are actually diverting from a legal sources. Those legal sources are the ones servicing the public. And in those areas, we found out that as a result of diversion, we discovered that there are no products.
“So, this will continue not only in Abuja; there are many more stations, we believed, that we can rely on good Samaritans to report,” he added.
