Distribution of inputs to 9, 500 rice farmers yet to start in Sokoto — RIFAN

Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Sokoto State chapter, has said that distribution of farming inputs to 9, 500 rice farmers in the state is yet to commence.
Ibrahim Salihu, Chairman of the association told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday, in Sokoto, that the dealers were yet to complete supply of the inputs to designated collection centres.
Salisu said RIFAN executives and other stakeholders were holding meetings to hasten the processes, as farmers would not collect incomplete inputs approved by the Federal Government.
“RIFAN wants to ensure that the supply will be completed by Wednesday, March 7, so that distribution will commence by Thursday.
“I want to appeal to farmers to remain calm and prepare for cultivation.
“I thank the government and other stakeholders for their efforts and commitment toward ensuring food sufficiency in the state,’’ he said.
Two farmers, Samaila Zawiyya and Muhammad Haske from Tambuwal and Sokoto, respectively, said that they had been waiting for the inputs, as they had since completed the clearance of their farms, ready for planting.
NAN reports that the inputs including organic fertiliser, seeds, herbicides, NPK and urea fertilser, sprayers and pumping machines, would be distributed to rice farmers in Sokoto, Goronyo, Gwadabawa and Tambuwal Local Government Areas.
