The Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has published data showing Nigerians do not get to buy fuel at the approved rate of N145 per litre.
This detail is contained in the NBS Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) price watch for January which puts the average pump price at N190.9 per litre.
Though N46 more than the official price, states pay more with Osun state residents paying as much as N228.89 for a litre of the commodity.
The report is based on the actual amount spent by households for the purchase of the PMS across the federation.
According to the report, residents of Abia and Benue states pay the next highest at N227.5 and N223.33 per litre respectively, for the product.
On the other side f the spectrum are Zamfara, Gombe and Kogi states’ residents’ who pay N159.12, N157.73; and N152.83 respectively for the product.
The situation is caused and, in some cases, compounded by the now 3-month-old nationwide fuel scarcity. It has translated also to hike in fares and other forms of hardship for the citizenry.
