Increases in price of cooking gas causes economic hardship

With the uncertainty that is in the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, which is the cooking gas in most parts in Nigeria, the price of the product has increased even more in certain places.

It was noted that the price of 1 kilogramme of cooking gas has been changed to N1,500 as compared to 1,200 that was being sold last week.

The gas dealers in Gwarimpa and Dawaki regions of FCT have been demanding higher prices of N17,500, as opposed to N15,000, on 12.5 kg.

On the same note, 12.5 kg of cooking gas went up to N15,000 at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, retail store along the Kubwa Expressway, against N13,625.

This is developed at a time when depot prices of cooking gas increased within the past week.

The gas price information indicated that Dangote Refinery ex-depot price of 20 metric tonnes has been N15,800 whereas the ex-depot price of Ardova, NIPCO and Shafa Energy is N18,400.

One of the off-takers of the product is Dangote Refinery.

Other LPG marketers like Shafa energy, 11 Plc, AA Rano, Ranoil and Matrix appear to be dry on LPG.

According to DAILY POST, the equivalent of 20 kilogrammes of LPG is equivalent to MT.

The increase in price of cooking gas is coupled with scarcity of LPG in Lagos, Kano and the rest of the nation, which led to the increase in the price.

Previously, the National President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, Oladapo Olatunbosun had attributed the rise in the price of cooking gas to artificial shortage.

He stated that what is occurring is that the lack of supply is being exploited by some marketers combined with the forces of demand that have risen in the market. This is not good, they are cashing up to get good money.

The week prior, the cost of cooking gas was stable at as low as N1,200, depending on the places, within the capital of the country.
