SON inaugurates task force on sub-standard computers

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has inaugurated a task force to check the infiltration of sub-standard computer and allied products into markets across the nation.
The inauguration was carried out by its Director-General, Osita Aboloma, at the Computer Village, at Ikeja, in Lagos state.
The event was attended by SON employees and members of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN).

In his speech, Aboloma, represented by the director, DG’s Office, Lagos, Kabir Mohammed, charged the Committee to come up with modalities and ways of check-mating the constant infiltration of the country with sub-standard computers and allied products.

He said that the move had become pertinent as the economic woes from the effect of dumping of sub-standard products were unacceptable and urged the task force to do a self-appraisal by ensuring that marketers and importers alike conform to set standards.
Mohammed said the setting up of the task force was not for witch- hunting, but a call to service to the nation.
CAPDAN president, Ahmed Ojikutu, thanked Aboloma for heeding the call of his association for an end to the proliferation of sub-standard and cloned products in markets.
He stated that the institution of the task force would go a long way in ensuring that sharp practices by unscrupulous importers and marketers would be arrested.
